چکیده

We study coexistence interference that arises between multiple collocated radio interfaces on 802.11 based multi-radio platforms used for mesh networks. We show that such interference can be so severe that it prevents concurrent successful operation of collocated interfaces even when they use channels from widely different frequency bands. We propose the use of antenna polarization to mitigate such interference and experimentally study its benefit in both multi-band and single band configurations. In particular, we show that using differently polarized antennas on a multi-radio platform can be a helpful counteracting mechanism for alleviating receiver blocking and adjacent channel interference phenomena that underlie multiradio coexistence interference. We also validate observations about adjacent channel interference from previous studies via direct and microscopic observation of MAC behavior.

Interference-Aware and Cluster Based Multicast Routing in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks

Multicast routing is one of the most important services in Multi Radio Multi Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). Multicast routing performance in WMNs could be improved by choosing the best routes and the routes that have minimum interference to reach multicast receivers. In this paper we want to address the multicast routing problem for a given channel assignment in WMNs. The channels...

The Optimal MMSE Transceiver Design for IoT-oriented Cognitive Radio Systems

This paper studies interference alignment scheme and minimum mean square error (MMSE) improvement in Internet of Things (IoT)-oriented cognitive systems, where IoT devices share the licensed spectrum by cognitive radio in spectrum underlay. Target to manage the inter-tier interference caused by cognitive spectrum sharing as well as ensure an MMSE at receivers, the interference alignment algorit...

In-Device Coexistence Simulation For Smartphones

Wireless communication platforms in small enclosures are susceptible to in-device RF interference. Difficult interference cases emerge in the next-generation 4G smartphones using certain LTE bands, and support in MAC and higher protocol layers is required for efficient interference avoidance. Interference and the avoidance mechanisms create coupling between the radios complicating the interacti...

IEEE 802.11 & Bluetooth Interference: Simulation and Coexistence

IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth, these two operating in the unlicensed 2.4Ghz frequency band are becoming more and more popular in the mobile computing world. The number of devices equipped with IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth is growing drastically. Result is the number of co-located devices , say within 10meters, grown to a limit, so that it may cause interference issues in the 2.4Ghz radio frequency spe...
